Medical Reports and Follow-up After a Shanghai Visit
Plan report collection, English translation, diagnostic image access and follow-up communication before leaving Shanghai.
Quick answer: Before leaving Shanghai, agree which documents will be delivered, when they are expected and who handles a failed handover. Report delivery does not replace clinical interpretation.
Records after a Shanghai visit: what to confirm
| Decision | Confirmation to request |
|---|---|
| List | Chinese reports, translations, notes and image datasets required. |
| Dates | Separate release dates for outstanding components. |
| Route | Private delivery channel, access and contact details. |
| Clinical follow-up | Who reviews findings and how to request another consultation. |
Confirm the handover before your appointment
A consultation, written report, diagnostic images and a follow-up review may be separate services. Ask the provider what you will receive, when it will be ready and whether any part requires another appointment. This matters if you leave Shanghai before all results are complete.
Your report collection checklist
- The exact reports or records included in your visit.
- The expected completion date and who will tell you when they are ready.
- Whether collection is in person, through a hospital portal or by another agreed route.
- Whether written reports are in Chinese, English or another available language.
- For imaging, whether the original image files are included and how to access them.
- Whether online access expires or needs a Chinese phone number or a hospital account.
- Who can explain the findings and how to book that review.
English report or translation?
A hospital-issued English report is different from an English explanation during a consultation or an independently translated Chinese report. Confirm which service is available, who prepares it, when it will arrive and whether it carries an additional charge. Keep the original report with any translation.
Sharing records after you return home
Ask your next treating clinician which records are needed. Use an agreed sharing method and avoid posting reports, identity documents, QR codes or access links publicly. Check the recipient before sending files. A report link may contain access credentials even if it does not display your name.
Follow-up communication
Ask who handles questions, whether remote follow-up is available and whether it requires a new consultation or fee. AccessChinaMed can help coordinate report collection and communication within the agreed scope. The treating healthcare professional interprets findings and provides medical advice.

A handover after departure
In our Shenzhen case summary, the report was sent after the visit and the traveller acknowledged receipt after returning home. That documented handover is one example, not a universal reporting deadline.
Need a particular document? Compare hospital-issued English reports and translations, then check the separate process for DICOM image export.

Are all results issued together?
Ask which laboratory, imaging or other records have separate release dates.
Does a report include clinical explanation?

Who answers a question about an abnormal result?
Contact the treating provider through the agreed clinical follow-up route; a coordinator does not interpret findings.

Preparing a later review
Keep an index of outstanding reports, their issuing departments, expected release dates and contacts. Confirm who will discuss the results clinically. Document delivery and translation do not complete a clinician-recommended follow-up.
Use the records checklist for another opinion and the pathology and laboratory review checklist when a receiving department requests more information.
