MRI in Shanghai: where to start

AccessChinaMed helps international patients arrange clinician-requested MRI in Shanghai. Start with the examination name, body region and preferred dates. We check the hospital route, appointment availability and written price scope before you decide whether to proceed.

The options below have published MRI services and a documented international-patient contact route. They are reference options, not partner-hospital claims or confirmation that either offers an AccessChinaMed package.

Two Shanghai hospital options with official information

Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital — Xuhui

The hospital’s radiology department page (Chinese) lists MRI and CT among its clinical services. Its international-service listing gives two Xuhui reception locations: 9F, Outpatient Building 1, 600 Yishan Road, and 3F, National Center for Orthopedics Building 8, 599 Liuzhou Road. These are service contacts, not a confirmed MRI-room address.

Official enquiry route: +86 21 2405 6318, weekdays 8:00–11:30 and 13:00–16:30. English is listed for the international service. Ask which department should review your request and whether a consultation is needed before imaging. Official international-service listing · Our Sixth People’s Hospital guide.

Shanghai United Family Hospital — Changning

The Shanghai network’s radiology service publishes MRI, CT and ultrasound. The Changning hospital is at 699 Pingtang Road; it is a different destination from the network’s Pudong and Jing’an hospitals. Confirm where your specific examination will take place.

Official enquiry route: appointment line 400 639 3900 or SHU.ApptCenter@ufh.com.cn. The municipal listing includes English and gives outpatient appointment-email hours of 8:00–20:30. Ask about the required clinical order and your preferred date. Official Changning listing · Our United Family Hospital guide.

A hospital’s published MRI capability does not establish a slot, a particular protocol or an English written report for your booking. Passport-registration requirements and the exact appointment location need to be settled with the selected hospital.

How we coordinate your Shanghai MRI appointment

  1. Tell us what you need. Give the test name, body region and side where relevant, your dates in Shanghai and whether you already have a clinician’s order. A brief first enquiry is enough; do not send a passport or full medical record at this stage.
  2. We check the route with the proposed hospital. We clarify whether it accepts the existing order or requires a local consultation, which campus handles the request, available dates, English assistance and the quoted inclusions. Any necessary documents can then be shared through an agreed channel.
  3. Review the confirmation before committing. You should have the named provider, campus, confirmed examination, appointment or remaining consultation step, price scope and payment terms. There is no fixed response-time or same-day promise: confirmation depends on the hospital accepting the request.
  4. Attend with a clear arrival and report plan. Follow the hospital’s registration and safety-screening instructions. At the imaging desk, check that the body region and side match the accepted order. Agree when and how to collect the report and image files, including anything outstanding after you leave Shanghai.

What will an MRI in Shanghai cost?

We do not publish a universal standalone MRI price. A useful estimate identifies the body region, examination protocol, consultation or local order, contrast if prescribed, written report, image export and any translation.

For quotation comparisons and the distinction between package additions and standalone appointments, use the Shanghai diagnostic cost guide. The provider must accept the exact scan region and protocol before booking.

English assistance and preparation

All AccessChinaMed projects include complimentary English-speaking appointment accompaniment through 31 December 2026. This is coordination support; an English hospital report or separate translation must be specified in the booking. MRI uses a strong magnetic field. Complete the imaging team’s safety screening and follow its instructions for your examination; accompaniment does not replace clinical clearance.

A real Shanghai visit: lumbar spine and both knees

In a visit at Shanghai Renai Hospital, our team coordinated a health check-up with lumbar-spine and bilateral-knee MRI. An on-site misunderstanding about the intended body region was clarified by the on-site companion; the account does not say that a wrong scan was performed. The handover included the Chinese report, an English version and a private image-access route.

The team recorded a historical US$900 arrangement, including US$750 for medical services and US$150 for accompaniment; payment of that total was not verified. This was a historical multi-region arrangement, not a current standalone tariff; its accompaniment charge is separate from the current inclusion offer. Read the visit details and see the original hospital photographs.

Reports and follow-up after the scan

Before leaving, agree on the written report’s release date and language, how to access original images, any access expiry and who will explain the findings. If you need DICOM image files, ask for the available export route and check that it works. Report collection and a clinician’s review are separate steps.
