Can international patients use Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital?
Yes. Shanghai’s official international medical-service directory lists a route for overseas patients at this public hospital. For a planned visit, start with the relevant department and campus, then confirm the registration and appointment requirements. The hospital’s name alone does not identify the building where you should arrive.

Which campus and entrance?
The published Xuhui locations are the ninth floor of Outpatient Building 1 at 600 Yishan Road, and the third floor of National Center for Orthopedics Building 8 at 599 Liuzhou Road. Ask which reception desk applies to your booking. The Lingang campus, at 222 West Huanhu Road Number Three, Pudong, is a separate destination; do not substitute it when arranging transport.
Booking a consultation or scan
Contact the international service with your medical concern, preferred dates and existing reports. For joint or spine concerns, describe the body part and whether you already have imaging. Ask whether the hospital wants a specialist consultation before accepting a scan request.
The hospital’s own radiology information confirms MRI and CT services across its Xuhui and Lingang operations. This establishes capability, not a same-day slot or a particular machine at your chosen campus. Before booking, confirm the examination region, whether contrast is involved, preparation instructions and the expected report date. The treating team decides which examination is appropriate.
Bring your passport, medication list and relevant records. Keep your registration name consistent across documents. Our passport-registration guide explains what to clarify before a first visit.
English support, costs and insurance
Ask separately about English communication with the doctor, help during registration and testing, and the language of the final report. One available English-speaking contact does not establish coverage for every step.
Request an itemized estimate separating consultation, scans, contrast where prescribed, and any additional procedures. We have not verified a current hospital-specific package price for this page. Prices elsewhere on AccessChinaMed should not be read as Sixth People’s Hospital tariffs.
The official listing includes direct-payment insurers. Your policy, department and proposed treatment still require confirmation with both parties; ask about pre-authorization and any amount you must pay yourself.
Before leaving the hospital
Confirm who will review your results, how to collect the written report, and whether original imaging can be supplied in DICOM format. Test any download or portal access before leaving China, and ask about availability after your return. See our DICOM collection checklist and English report guide.
