Health Check-ups in China for Foreigners: Booking, Preparation and Reports
A practical guide to choosing the right screening visit and leaving with a clear report plan.
Quick answer: Compare the full named examination list and exact hospital campus. A general brand starting reference is different from a current named hospital package price.
Health-check package selection: what to confirm
| Decision | Confirmation to request |
|---|---|
| Package | Full list, eligibility and any examinations already included. |
| Campus | Named location rather than a general hospital address. |
| Visit | Preparation instructions and expected on-site time. |
| Reports | Chinese report, complete English translation and completion-based timing. |

Foreign visitors can arrange health check-ups in China, but a useful booking starts with the purpose of the visit, the actual test list and the report arrangements. Confirm that the hospital accepts your passport for the chosen service. Then ask a clinician or the hospital screening team whether the proposed package fits your circumstances. A package name alone does not answer those questions.
If you are still deciding how hospital access works, begin with our guide to medical treatment in China for foreigners. This page focuses on organising a screening appointment, rather than comparing every available package price.
Start with the question you want the visit to answer
Tell the booking team whether you want a routine health review, a check required by an employer or another organisation, or help with a particular concern. These requests should not be treated as interchangeable. For a specific symptom, explain it before paying for a general package and ask which appointment is appropriate.
If an employer, insurer or overseas clinician needs the results, obtain their requirements first. They may need a particular form, named tests or a signed report. Sending those requirements before booking is more useful than selecting a long test list and hoping it will be accepted later.
- What is your main reason for the check-up?
- Which previous results or ongoing conditions should the hospital know about?
- Does another organisation specify the tests or report format?
- Will you be available for a discussion after the results are ready?
Compare named Shanghai hospital packages
The current MyChinaCheckup catalogue starts at US$320 at Huadong Main, while Renji East men’s check-up 01 is US$480. These named packages are distinct from AccessChinaMed’s US$316 starting reference. Confirm the service location, not just the hospital name
Renji’s East campus has a general address of 160 Pujian Road, Pudong, listed in its official health management information. Its International Medical Service overview gives the East Campus international-service address as the Health Management Center, 33 Beiyuan Road. Neither reference by itself confirms the check-in point for your named Renji East check-up package. Obtain the exact building, floor and entrance in your booking confirmation.
The hospital’s appointment instructions publish telephone, official WeChat and email routes and describe passport/ID registration. An English webpage does not establish that every reception desk or clinician speaks English. Ask who will support registration, the consultation and questions at each test station.
Get preparation instructions for your actual tests
Ask for written instructions once the test list is confirmed. Do not apply a fasting rule from another person’s package or change prescribed medicines on a coordinator’s advice. The hospital should explain any food, drink, medication, sample-collection or timing requirements that apply to you.
Send questions early if you have a condition or treatment that could make the instructions difficult to follow. The practical goal is to resolve uncertainty before travel, rather than arriving and finding that part of the visit must be rearranged.
- Confirm arrival time and the latest acceptable check-in time.
- Ask whether your tests must follow a particular order.
- Bring the identity document used for booking and relevant previous results.
- Keep the hospital’s written preparation instructions accessible offline.
If arrival and screening fall on the same morning, review our short-visit planning guide before finalising either booking.
Book the report handover as carefully as the appointment
Separate four questions: when the tests finish, when the report is issued, which language it uses, and who explains the findings. A completed morning visit does not establish that the full report will be available before an afternoon flight.
Request the expected release window, delivery route and contact for missing items. Ask whether you receive a hospital-issued English report or a translation, and whether a clinician’s review is included or needs another appointment. Our English medical reports guide explains the distinctions.
In one documented Shenzhen check-up coordination story, Lucy supported the visit on site and Steven followed up on the English report, which was received after the patient returned home. This is a practical example of a visit and its paperwork following different timelines, not a promised turnaround for another hospital.
Leave with an agreed next step
Before leaving, know which items remain pending, where the final documents will arrive, and how to arrange a clinician’s review if needed. Ask for copies suitable for your usual doctor, rather than relying only on a phone photograph of a summary.
All AccessChinaMed projects include complimentary English-speaking appointment accompaniment through 31 December 2026. Confirm its scope in the written plan, including any separate report review or return visit. Coordination helps organise access and communication; the hospital’s clinicians select appropriate tests and interpret the results.
