Specialist Appointments in Shanghai for International Patients

Prepare a clear appointment request, understand the written scope and receive hospital confirmation before travel.

Quick answer: If you have symptoms, a previous diagnosis or results you want a doctor to review, start with a specialist appointment request rather than choosing a larger screening package. AccessChinaMed helps clarify the department, hospital campus, appointment route and English support. The receiving provider decides whether it can accept the request, which records it needs and whether an in-person consultation is required.

Start with a short general enquiry

Tell us your preferred city, approximate dates, the department or appointment you are seeking and whether you already have relevant records. If you are unsure which department to approach, say so. Your first enquiry does not require a passport number or detailed medical documents.

For a health-check request, we may later ask about personal and family medical history and particular concerns to help define the request. Questions about symptoms or abnormal results should be directed to a clinician; a coordinator does not decide which medical tests you need.

Records are requested for a defined purpose

Once the receiving route is identified, we explain which documents are required and agree how they will be shared. A dated summary, previous reports, medication list or original imaging may be requested depending on the appointment. Avoid sending unrelated identity or medical material through a public enquiry form.

A translated summary helps communication, but does not replace original reports or a doctor’s assessment. AccessChinaMed cannot promise that a particular public-hospital specialist offers remote video consultations or will issue an opinion from documents alone. Ask about the available format before making travel plans.

Check the quotation line by line

  • Medical charges: consultation, proposed examinations and any provider-required deposits, with the payment recipient identified.
  • Coordination: appointment requests, agreed on-site support, number of visits and any time limits.
  • Language: doctor language, English-speaking accompaniment, written translation and any provider-required interpreter approval.
  • Records and further visits: report collection, imaging access, translation scope and follow-up coordination.
  • Extras: additional departments, procedures, travel, accommodation or services outside the agreed visit.

A quoted coordination service does not establish the final cost of treatment. The clinician determines the medical plan, and additional services require a separate scope and approval. Read our cost checklists and confirm which payment and cancellation conditions apply to your own appointment.

Before committing to travel

Receive the exact campus, department, appointment date, arrival instructions and agreed language support in writing after the hospital confirms. A general enquiry, preliminary record review or cost estimate is not an appointment. Allow for separate tests or repeat visits; a short stay does not guarantee a completed diagnosis or treatment.

After the consultation

Confirm which records you will receive, the report language, any separately agreed translation, how image files can be obtained and who answers clinical questions after departure. Use the visit-document checklist to keep the quotation, appointment and report handover distinct.

Questions before requesting a specialist

Can you guarantee my chosen doctor?

No. The hospital confirms whether the doctor, department and appointment route can accept your request.

Is a specialist consultation part of a health-check package?

Only if it is expressly listed in the confirmed package. A separate specialist visit needs its own appointment, scope and quotation.

Can I request an English-speaking doctor?

Yes, but availability must be checked. A Chinese-speaking doctor with agreed English accompaniment is a different arrangement and should be identified in the plan.

Does help arranging a visit mean you provide medical advice?

No. AccessChinaMed coordinates practical access and communication. Diagnosis, suitability, prescriptions and treatment decisions belong to licensed healthcare professionals.
